CCTV is called closed-circuit television and is mostly referred to as video surveillance. The “closed-circuit” definition is that broadcasts are usually broadcast on a limited number of (closed) monitors, in contrast to “regular” TV, which is broadcast to the public at large. CCTV networks are most commonly used to detect and prevent criminal activity and to record traffic violations, but they have other uses as well.
